Our Story
Ginger Root Catering is catering company dedicated to serving a diverse local community with global representation in Brooklyn, New York. We provide food that balances/marries the flavor of Caribbean cuisine with healthy, organic nutritional needs.
The Ginger Root brand dates back to 2004 when Chef Lyra Petrie opened a small, family-run storefront restaurant called Ginger Root Cafe in the Prospect/Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, NY. In many ways, the restaurant was before its time. Inspired by the neighborhood's rapid shift to a racially and ethnically-mixed demographic, she designed an eclectic menu that featured “something for everyone” including traditional Caribbean dishes as well as some fusion items and American favorites.

Ginger Root is located in the heart of Crown Heights in Brooklyn, New York. We offer catering services for parties of 10 up to 50. Chef Lyra offers a 5-course menu or a special custom menu for groups with special dietary needs.

Chef Lyra's global cuisine is a mix of traditional Caribbean dishes as well as some fusion items and American favorites. Serving as a community chef instructor with her own series of cooking instructions for East New York Farms, a black-owned community farm in Brooklyn, and a featured Chef at Yale's Global Food Space, she is available for private or digital demonstrations.
